JAGUARS BOYS BASKETBALL ADVANCES TO CIF CHAMPIONSHIP!

Congratulations to the Boys Basketball Team for an exceptional semi-final game Saturday night at Shatto!! The Jaguars defeated Harbor Prep 93-52 in front of a packed house of devoted fans! The team will now play in the CIF Division 5 Championship game vs. Middle College on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 PM at North Hollywood High School. GO JAGUARS!!!

Congratulations to both Girls and Boys Soccer Teams for defeating Animo Ralph Bunche. The Girls won 3-1 with goals scored by Freshman Alexis Santamaria and Junior Kassandra Laines. The Boys won 4-1 and sontinue to have an undefeated record of 10-0-1. Goals were scored by Junior Juan Peregrina, Freshman Cristo Deras, Freshman Walter De Leon, and Senior Victor Lopez. Special thank you to all Faculty and Staff who came out and supported both the Girls and Boys Basketball games!! The Boys continue their undefeated season by beating Mendez 67-39! With only two games remaining in the regular season, and an undefeated record of 9-0-1, this win makes the Jaguars Freeway League Champions for the first time in the history of Central City Value! Jaguars Cross Country Team compete in the CIF Division 3 City Championships

The Jaguars Cross Country Team compete in the CIF Division 3 City Championships on Saturday, November 21st at Pierce College! The Girls run at 9:40 AM followed by the Boys at 10:10 AM. The top finishers will be eligible to run in the State Championships!! Go Jaguars!!

CIF Division 3 Cross Country Champ!

Senior Stacey Mendez qualified for the State Championships in 2014. She now qualifies again, finishing in 7th place in the 2015 Cross Country City Championships! Stacey is an incredible runner and tough competitor. Congratulations Stacey!

Lady Jaguars Capture CIF Division V Volleyball Championship!

On November 20, 2015, the Lady Jaguars captured the CIF Division V Volleyball Championship! Defeating the Middle College Cougars 3 to 0, the Lady Jaguars have had a stellar season! Lady Jaguars often made it to the CIF Final Four in previous years, but this is the first volleyball championship win for Central City Value High School!

Athletics plays an important part in the life of Central City Value High School. Young people learn a great deal from participation in interscholastic athletics. Lessons in sportsmanship, teamwork, competition, and how to win and lose gracefully are integral parts of the athletic program. Athletic participation also plays an important part in helping students develop a healthy self-concept, as well as a healthy body. Athletic competition also improves school spirit and helps students develop pride in Central City. Most importantly, it is a privilege to participate in athletics at Central City.

The athletic program at Central City is supplemental to the academic program which strives to provide experiences that will help to develop the students physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. Participation in athletics at Central City seeks to instill the following Five Values: 1. Academic Excellence 2. Realizing Potential 3. Individual Respect 4. Community Values 5. Service to Others.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and the Central City Athletic Department determine the levels of competition and regulations. Central City proudly supports the CIF’s sportmanship program: “ Character Counts – Pursuing Victory with Honor”. Central City athletes and coaches are expected to abide by the six pillars of character: Caring, Good Citizenship, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, and Trustworthiness.

Girls/Boys Cross Country: August-November - Head Coach is Mr. Gabriel Nguidjol. Practice is 3:30 - 5:30 PM at Elysian Park.

Girls Varsity Volleyball: July - November - Coaches are Ms. Raissa Adolphe and Mr. James Taruc. Practices are from 3:30 - 5:30 PM at Shatto Recreation Center. Home matches are at 2:30 at Shatto Recreation Center.

WINTER

Girls/Boys Varsity Soccer: October - February - Head Girls Coach is Mr. Diego Adame. Practice is 3:30 - 5:30 PM at Shatto Recreation Center and Ross Snyder Recreation Center. Head Boys Coach is Mr. Gabriel Nguidjol. Practice is at Ross Snyder Recreation Center 3:30-5:30 and Camino Field 5:15-7:00 PM on Tuesday and Thursday. Home Soccer games are at 2:30 at Ross Snyder Recreation Center.

Girls/Boys Varsity Basketball: October - February - Head Girls Coach is Mr. Don Winbush. Head Boys Coach is Mr. Erik Harden. Practice is 3:30 - 5:30 PM at Shatto Recreation Center. Home Basketball games are at Shatto Recreation Center 2:30/4:00

SPRING

Girls Varsity Softball: February - May - Head Coach is Mr. Don Winbush. Practice is 3:30-5:30 at Shatto Recreation Center. Home games are at 2:30 PM at Shatto Recreation Center

Boys Varsity Baseball: February - May - Coaches are Mr. Filiberto Ramirez and Mr. Kirk Ramsey. Practice is 3:30-5:30 PM at Pote Field Wednesdays and Fridays. Home games are at Pote Field at 2:30 PM.

ELIGIBILITY

Athletes require a 2.0 GPA to participate.

  • FALL: Gradepoint at the end of June/Summer School is used.
  • WINTER: Gradepoint on the October Progress Report is used.
  • SPRING: Gradepoint on the First Semester Report Card is used.

GAME DAY ATTENDANCE

Student/athletes arriving late to school on game day will not be permitted to travel with the team, be in uniform, or play in the game.

Student/athletes need to be in attendance at school for two hours (excluding lunch and nutrition) in order to be eligible to play on game days. Exceptions may be made by the principal in case of death in families, court orders, or other extreme emergencies.

ACCIDENT INSURANCE

Each athlete must pay $20 to cover injuries or accidents that may occur while participating in athletics. This is a one-time fee that covers the entire year.

PHYSICAL

Each athlete must be examined by a doctor, be given a physical, and submit a Blue Card to the AD, indicating that they are physically fit to participate in athletics at Central City. This is required once per year.

SPIRIT PACK

Central City provides uniforms for all athletic teams. Any other additional items will be covered by the athletes. These may include sweatshirts , tee shirts, bags, team jackets etc. Team fundraising events may be used to offset these additional costs.

ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT

Athletes occupy a position of leadership and influence in the school and in the community. All athletes must abide by rules and regulations. The “Athletic Code of Conduct” will be read and signed by athletes and parents before the start of every season. Any infraction of these principles may result in disciplinary action.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

As one of Central City’s Five Values, each athletic team is responsible to perform community service as part of their team commitment during the season.
