University Prep Value High SchoolAcademic Excellence, Our First Value

On November 18, 2014 the Los Angeles Board of Education approved the charter for the second high school in the Value Schools system. University Prep Value High School will open on Monday August 10, 2015 with 120 ninth grades students. Mr. David Doyle, who was the founding principal of Central City Value High School in 2003, was asked by CEO Gerry Jacoby to lead the new high school. Mr. Doyle will staff the new high school with veteran teachers from Central City Value High School who helped create a unified community based on the five core values.

University Prep Value High School will be located in the Pico-Union neighborhood located just a few blocks west of Staples Center and will offer challenging university preparatory curriculum. University Prep will use the Common Core State Standards to prepare each student to be successful in any four year university in the country. Based on the success of Central City Value High School, Mr. Doyle will, "challenge the students, parents and faculty to create an 'exceptional school community' by putting the school's values into action. Students will enroll in honors and advanced placement (AP)classes and other courses meant to prepare them for the rigors of university level courses. Our goal for the members of the class of 2019 is 100% acceptance to 4 year universities.

The Mission of University Prep Value High School

University Prep Value High School facilitates the learning of the secondary school students who choose it so that they may become persons who make a difference for their society and their world.

The persons who will make a difference are those women and men who have received a sound education.  They can be characterized by the five core values; they will be citizens of their society and their world who:

  • actively seek to continue to learn throughout their lives;
  • have both the basic knowledge and skills that all persons can acquire and the refinement of those special talents that each person possesses;
  • respect every person and work to promote the dignity of each person;
  • find in collaborating with others that the community can gain more than what individuals can achieve on their own;
  • give something back to society through employment, civic and political participation, family life and community service from the benefit received from education.
